Chiropractic Techniques & Areas of Focus

There are over 100 different techniques within chiropractic!

Dr. Sarah's areas of focus prioritize patients looking for help through a neuro-structural, low-force, and trauma-informed lens.

Low-Force Adjustments

There are over 100 techniques within the chiropractic profession! Many standard techniques utilize a higher amount of force and can result in an audible noise upon adjustment.

However, with heightened daily stressors, our systems are living in a ‘fight or flight’ response. Using low-force adjusting techniques can help calm the system and provide a faster, yet less forceful, impact to the body.

This approach works with the body’s natural alignment and stability, making it especially supportive for individuals with hypermobility or Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS). Using these precise techniques helps reduce strain on vulnerable joints while still encouraging improved function and comfort.

Dr. Sarah’s goal would be to adjust with a minimal amount of force, but still tailor care to what the patient needs, utilizing different techniques as necessary.

She is also currently the only Advanced Proficiency rated provider through Activator Methods in Rochester, NY.

Gentle techniques utilized in office may include: Activator Methods (Advanced Proficiency protocol), Sacral Occipital Technique (SOT), Upper Cervical Instrument Adjusting, Webster Technique, Logan Basic, Pettibon, Thompson Drop

Neuro-Structural Care

Your brain controls every function under your hat! Re-educating the brain and overall nervous system allows adjustments to hold longer and the body to adapt to life’s stressors.

Dr. Sarah focuses on retraining how the brain communicates posture with the rest of the body, with an emphasis on how the cervical spine (neck)/TMJ regions are aligned and functioning.

Although we prioritize the alignment of the entire neck, the top 2 bones in the cervical spine (C1 & C2) protect the brainstem (which communicates all functions to the rest of the body!) and give your head/neck the ability to rotate side to side. Giving extra specific care to those segments can help the body manage different types of stressors with ease.

This care is great for all patients, but especially those with neurological concerns such as migraines, dizziness, hypermobility, TMJ… or those looking to correct their posture.

Although not a requirement for care, many of Dr. Sarah’s cases utilize imaging. Patients are encouraged to bring in recent studies, especially spinal x-rays. Depending on exam findings and techniques utilized, 3D imaging (CBCT) may be ordered. This machine allows a full 360 view of the neck and jaw, providing extremely detailed spinal analysis.

Trauma-Informed Approach

A trauma-informed approach to chiropractic is so important. Dr. Sarah recognizes that past (and current) experiences—whether physical or emotional—can shape how the body holds stress and responds to care.

Dr. Sarah’s objective is to create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment where comfort and consent are always prioritized.

Each visit is guided by clear communication, gentle techniques, and an appreciation for the mind-body connection, so you can feel empowered in your healing process. You will always know what's next in the visit so there are no surprises and can ask questions/request clarification at any time!

Together, our goal is not only to navigate healing and relieve pain/symptoms, but to also help you rebuild trust in you bodies and support long-term well-being.

Hypermobility

Living with hypermobility often means dealing with joint instability, frequent aches, and the need to be cautious with certain types of movement. Traditional chiropractic adjustments that use strong pressure or joint rotation can sometimes feel too aggressive for hypermobile bodies.

That’s why Dr. Sarah emphasizes gentle, low-force techniques. These methods work with the body’s natural alignment and nervous system, offering support without placing added strain on already flexible joints and ligaments. Low-force care with an emphasis on both neurology and structure helps improve comfort, encourage stability, and reduce the stress that can contribute to pain or flare-ups.

For patients with hypermobility and/or Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), this approach provides a safe, effective way to support long-term joint health while promoting a greater sense of ease in everyday movement.
